Ed & Jon, I think it's blatantly obvious why it is so cheap, he has said all of the stuff that's been done to it.

-It has had a AAAA flamed maple veneer added over the 3/4" maple cap. This is finished in 'blackburst' ( similar to the Joe Perry model of a few years ago ).

-Body binding has a few repairs and reglued areas, it also looks like it has been replaced or maybe cleaned up at some point.

-Back and sides have been refinished, its quite a good job but could be better with some more polishing if you're bothered.

-The neck binding is quite worn around the end of the neck ( frets 16-20 ish ) Ideally this could be replaced but thats up to you.

-The tuners are vintage Grover nickel plated ones, still work well and are in good condition.
I don't think the hardware is original but is all in good condition and seems pretty good quality.

-Frets could do with dressing is you want a low action. (i think you've got to on a les paul)

It really does sound like a players guitar, I think resale value is iffy you could probably get what you paid for it. There is a lot on it that's not original and it seems like it could do with a bit of work, personally I think you should look for something newer (than 68-72/3) and that needs less doing to it for maybe a bit more money.

If you don't mind asking, how is it that would are looking at such an expensive instrument?
